Welcome to the Osaka Pavilion!

Osaka has prospered as a center of commerce, business, and industry by taking advantage of its abundant presence of water, and subsequent development of its water transportation systems. Throughout its history, Osaka has overcome many environmental issues, including flooding and air pollution, through progress in environmental engineering and urban development promoting co-existence with the environment. These measures, taken to provide both safety and comfort for Osaka’s residents, have made “Osaka: An Environmentally-Advanced Water Metropolis” a reality. The Osaka Pavilion promotes the charms of Osaka’s people, neighborhoods, and industry, as well as helps the environment worldwide by sharing Osaka’s experience and technology with the cities of the world.

China and Osaka have shared a history which stretches from the Sui and Tang Dynasties to the present day. Further, Shanghai is a Sister City of both Osaka City and Osaka Prefecture. Thanks to these close relationships spanning over 30 years, Shanghai and Osaka have shared exchanges in a variety of fields and have developed together as international economic centers.

In 1970, Osaka was also the site of the first World Expo in Asia. It is our sincere hope that through Expo 2010 Shanghai, the ties of friendship shared between Shanghai, China and Osaka will grow even deeper.
